Public Transport in Luxembourg

Public transports are fully free in Luxembourg ! You don't even need to take a ticket, just hop in the tram, in the bus or in the train and enjoy the ride ! 

 

Parking in Luxembourg City

Parking in Luxembourg City is regulated and can be expensive depending on the zone — check the city's official parking map for current rates and restricted zones. Street parking in the centre is limited and metered; it is not recommended for a full day.

Parking garages in Luxembourg City — several options in and around the centre:

  • Parking Glacis — a short walk from the centre, often cheaper than the most central garages and free during weekendsParking Knuedler — central, closest to the old town and government district.

  • Parking Monterey — central, near boulevard Royal and the banking district.

Park & Ride (P+R): Luxembourg has several free Park & Ride sites at the edges of the city (e.g. Kirchberg, Bouillon, Junglinster). Public transport (bus, tram, and train, 2nd class) is free of charge nationwide, so parking at a P+R and continuing by tram or bus into the centre is often the easiest and cheapest option.

Flying to Luxembourg

Luxembourg Findel Airport (LUX) is the country's international airport, located about 15 minutes from the city centre. Luxair, the national carrier, connects Luxembourg directly to many major European cities, alongside several other European airlines serving the airport.

You will be able to use free public transportation directly via the tramway from Findel Airport to the city centre.

Nearby alternative airports, useful if you're combining the trip with a connection or looking for cheaper fares:

  • Brussels (BRU) — roughly 2.5–3 hours by car or train.

  • Frankfurt (FRA) — roughly 3 hours by car or train.

  • Paris (CDG/Orly) — roughly 3.5–4 hours by car, or a direct high-speed train (see below).

 

Getting to Luxembourg by rail

Luxembourg City's main station, Gare de Luxembourg, is a well-connected European rail hub, served by CFL (Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois), the national railway.

Direct connections include:

  • Paris — high-speed TGV, around 2h10.

  • Brussels — direct trains, around 2h45.

  • Frankfurt / Koblenz — direct ICE service.

  • Trier (Germany) and Metz / Nancy (France) — frequent regional trains, useful for shorter cross-border trips.

Domestic train travel within Luxembourg is free of charge (2nd class). Check schedules and book international tickets via CFL: https://www.cfl.lu/

 

Taxi services in Luxembourg

Getting around Luxembourg City by taxi is straightforward. We recommend:

  • Webtaxi — the main local taxi-booking app, widely used across the country.

  • Uber — ride-hailing app, active in Luxembourg City.
